Sacramento, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Stephen Curry filled the stat sheet with 24 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and five assists as the Golden State Warriors defeated the Sacramento Kings 95-77 in Steve Kerrs head coaching debut. Mark Jackson was unable to keep his job despite leading the Warriors to 51 wins a year ago and nine playoff wins during his three-year stint -- more victories (six) than Golden State had in its previous two decades. The rookie head coach Kerr, who won five NBA championship rings as a player, will attempt to guide the Warriors beyond the second round of the playoffs this season for the first time in 40 years. Klay Thompson had 19 points and six assists for Golden State, which fell to the Los Angeles Clippers in seven games during the first round of last seasons NBA playoffs. Marreese Speights provided 16 points off the bench and Draymond Green added 12 points and 10 boards in the triumph. DeMarcus Cousins posted 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Kings, who turned the ball over 26 times. A Rudy Gay dunk in transition off a Darren Collison steal staked the Kings to a 54-51 lead in the third before Golden State pulled away following a 19-2 run. Six different Warriors scored during the burst with Harrison Barnes and Curry each putting in five. Speights capped the surge with a driving layup along the right side of the lane for a healthy 70-56 Warriors cushion late in the third. Golden State took a 73-63 advantage into the fourth and never trailed by less than double figures in the final frame. Neither team led by more than seven in the first half. Leandro Barbosa finished off an 8-0 spurt with a layup to give the Warriors a 23-16 margin late in the first before Carl Landrys dunk in the final second pulled Sacramento within 25-23 after a quarter of play. The Kings led 49-47 at the break. Game Notes Golden State tallied 26 points off those Sacramento turnovers ... The Kings shot just 30.8 percent (24-of-78) from the floor and 16.7 percent (3-of-18) from beyond the arc. Trailing 5-4 in the third set, the 12th-ranked Isner fought off two match points and evened it at 5-5 with consecutive aces. The former University of Georgia star had his only service break of the match to go up 6-5 before firing the last four of his 30 aces to close out Ginepri, an Atlanta resident ranked 281st. Evan Longoria Rays Jersey . HABS HEADED TO CONFERENCE FINAL The Montreal Canadiens scored early in Game Seven, built a lead and protected it well on their way to a 3-1 series-clinching win over the Boston Bruins. While this game or series isnt necessarily a referendum on the value of fourth lines, the Canadiens certainly benefitted from production lower down their forward depth chart. Drew Smyly Jersey . - Titans quarterback Jake Locker will miss the rest of the season with a Lisfranc injury to his right foot, leaving Tennessee trying to rally with Ryan Fitzpatrick.MELBOURNE, Australia - For more than four hours, American qualifier Tim Smyczek fought desperately for every point against Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open, chasing down everything the 14-time Grand Slam champion threw at him. Then, with No. 3-ranked Nadal serving at 6-5 in the fifth set, he gave his opponent a break.A spectator shouted just as the Spaniard was about to make contact with his first serve, causing him to miss long. As Nadal glared into the stands, Smyczek motioned that he should retake the first serve. Nadal did — and won the point and the second-round match 6-2, 3-6, 6-7 (2), 6-3, 7-5.Smyczek won Nadals respect. What he did at the end of the fifth is just amazing, he said. Very few players can do that after four hours something of a match, at 6-5, love-30. So I just will say thanks to him because hes a great example what he did today.Smyczek, a soft-spoken 27-year-old from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, never questioned doing the sporting thing.I dont know if the guy didnt know (Nadal) was tossing the ball or not, but it clearly bothered him, he said, looking down and smiling sheepishly. You know, I thought it was the right thing to do.Ranked 112th in the world, Smyczek had never beaten a top-10 player; his previous best win was against No. 19 Jurgen Melzer at a tournament in Delray Beach, Florida, in 2012.He toils for much of the season on the second-tier Challenger circuit, playing in front of sparse crowds in towns like Napa, California, and Charlottesville, Virginia.dddddddddddd He had to survive three rounds of qualifying just to make the Australian Open main draw.Against Nadal in front of 15,000 fans at Rod Laver Arena, though, the American played without fear, racing out to a two-sets-to-one lead behind his pin-point serve — he finished with 15 aces — and a huge forehand that he used to hit 28 of his 64 winners. At one point, with the Spaniard ailing due to the humidity and fatigue, he even entertained the thought he might actually win.I had a good game plan going in. The most important thing I thought was for me to try and stay within myself, he said. I didnt really struggle with nerves too much just because I got nothing to lose.Nadal was impressed with Smyczeks play, too, admitting he knew little about his opponent before the match.I saw him play in some videos, he said. For Smyczek, its now back to the minor leagues, with the goal of lifting his ranking into the top 100 so he doesnt have to qualify for the Slams anymore. Hes supposed to play a challenger in Hawaii next week, but he may take a week off to rest after his performance in Melbourne. Its definitely not going to be the same as playing a night session on Rod Laver, he said. Its just part of the deal with being ranked 100 in the world. Youve got to do it.
