My profile is reporting a 15k attack xp gain for today; but I haven't trained attack. I've gained maybe 500xp attack xp today from misclick attacks in LRC and peng hunting. But certainly nowhere near 15k!

I've had this issue once or twice before, always a random skill, always one with 0-1k real gains, always displaying 15 - 30k gains.

RuneTrack takes your experience as of this moment and your experience for the previous days and just subtracts; no fancy math is going on. If you gained experience late last night in Attack, it may be included on today.

Your attack xp at the system update last night was 6,693,003. Your current attack xp is 6,708,077. Therefore, you have gained 15K xp today.

Some common factors of confusion in this calculation may be:

• A "day" corresponds to the time from one system update to another (every 24 hours, starting at 2am Eastern US). This may or may not correspond to the concept of a day in all locations of the world. The system update was purposefully placed at a time when most in the US and Europe would be sleeping, so it works well for most, but some regions (like Australia) have the system update occur during daylight hours.
• Jagex may be having highscore problems, and not updating the xp on the RuneScape highscores on time. Typically your xp is updated when you log out, but sometimes the Jagex servers are slow and the xp does not appear on the RuneScape highscores for several hours, meaning your xp gains from one day may have drifted a bit into the next day if Jagex didn't update their highscores on time.

But that's the thing: I HAVE NOT changed attack xp by anywhere near 15k.
I've been mining and doing shattered heart, I have not gained more than a couple of k attack xp in the past few months.

A prior example would be it showed 50k hunter xp gain a month or two ago...other than a few odd tid bits doing shattered heart (no more than 2-3k a week) I haven't trained hunter in about a year.

doh; totally forgot about that!
But still I've had other truly inexplicable instances of xp being listed that I haven't gained.

As demonstrated by the above scenario, I'm guessing there are probably valid explanations for those xp gains as well.

However, if you think this happens again, just post here and I'll look into it.
