BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox are still looking for a position for Brock Holt. The versatile rookie has made the search difficult by playing well wherever the club has put him. Holt made his first professional start in centre field and he appeared perfectly comfortable in his fifth position this season. He made a sensational diving catch to end the third inning and scored both Boston runs in the Red Soxs 2-1 win over the Minnesota Twins 2-1 on Tuesday night. "It seems like Brock at some point in each game has an effect on whats going on," said Jon Lester, who weathered a shaky start and pitched six-plus strong innings. "Im sure well see him with catchers gear or on the mound at some point this year. The guys done an unbelievable job." Holt ended the third inning with a diving catch on a ball that left fielder Jonny Gomes lost in the twilight. Gomes signalled with his hands that he couldnt see it, but Holt was already on the move and lunged just in time to complete the catch. "Fortunately I was able to get over there and make a play," Holt said. Boston fans gave him a long ovation during his entire trot to the dugout, and teammates waited with high-fives and pats on the back on the way. Holt happened to be up next and led off with a double off the Green Monster, stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly to put the Red Sox up 2-0. "He comes out of nowhere and makes a diving catch. In a way, he took over the inning," Boston manager John Farrell said. "He doesnt get hung up on moving to a position for the first time. He goes out and plays." Holt scored Bostons first run after he singled and then came in on an RBI double by Dustin Pedroia. Lester (8-7) needed 33 pitches to get out of the first inning on a hot, muggy night, then settled down and took a shutout into the sixth. He left with one out in the seventh after striking out six and holding the Twins to one run, four hits and a walk. Edward Mujica pitched the ninth and earned his second save. Phil Hughes (7-3) took the loss for the Twins, who have dropped four straight. The Red Sox have held Minnesota to one run and seven hits in the first two games of the series. Hughes gave up two runs and eight hits in eight innings and struck out six. "He did all he could do. He gave us a great opportunity to win. We just couldnt come up with enough big hits," manager Ron Gardenhire said. After Danny Santana opened the game with a single,, Lester retired 13 of the next 14 batters and didnt allow another hit until Kurt Suzuki singled with one out in the fifth. Minnesota cut it to 2-1 in the sixth when Santana led off with a double, moved to third on a bunt by Brian Dozier, and scored on Joe Mauers double. "We need to knock in some runs," Gardenhire said. "We need more of them." Pedroia nearly broke open the game on a fly ball to left that was inches short of a two-run homer. Instead, it was a single, and Pedroia was caught in a rundown. The play was reviewed for several minutes, and the call on the field stood. NOTES: Holt played centre field on Tuesday and has made starts in all three outfield positions, as well as first and third base. ... Lester struck out Eduardo Escobar in the fifth inning for his 1,342nd career strikeout, passing Cy Young for fourth place on Bostons career strikeout list. ... Lester threw nearly one-third of his 109 pitches in the first inning. ... Before the game, the Red Sox designated outfielder Grady Sizemore for assignment. In 52 games, he hit .216 with two homers and 15 RBIs. ... Minnesota RF Oswaldo Arcia went 0-for-4 and is hitless in 20 at-bats. ... Minnesota RHP Kyle Gibson (6-5, 3.55) will face Boston RHP John Lackey (8-4, 3.24) in the finale of the three-game series on Wednesday afternoon. Jamaal Williams Jersey . Still, Encarnacion felt a sense of relief. He felt a pop just before crumpling to the ground after running out a groundball in the first inning of Saturdays game. It could have been worse. “Its going to take maybe two weeks,” said Encarnacion. “It depends how Im going to be and how Im going to be day after day, feeling better or not. Thompson scored 19 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter and Harrison Barnes scored 14 points in his season debut to help the Golden State Warriors to a 106-93 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night. http://www.shoptheofficialpackers.com/E ... rs-Jersey/. Pistorius denied the allegation that he said to the close friend of the girlfriend he killed: "How can you sleep at night?" The accusation by Kim Myers provided a bizarre twist during the trial of the world-famous double-amputee Olympian, who is facing 25 years to life in prison if convicted of premeditated murder for shooting dead Steenkamp, a 29-year-old model, at his home last year. Karlovic of Croatia used his big serve to beat Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic 7-6 (6), 7-6 (7). Kohlschreiber had lost all of his three previous matches against Istomin but the German broke serve for a decisive 3-2 lead in the third set and held on to reach his first final of the year.All-rounder Chris Woakes bagged his maiden 10-wicket match haul as England battled hard to limit Pakistans lead on day three of the first Test at Lords. Woakes followed up first-innings figures of 6-70 with 5-31 to become the first England bowler to take five or more wickets in each innings of a Test at Lords since Ian Botham in 1978 but could not prevent Pakistan building a sizeable advantage of 281.Asad Shafiq (49) and Sarfraz Ahmed (45) dragged the tourists, at one stage wobbling on 60-4 in their second innings, to 214-8 at stumps - Yasir Shah contributing a career-best 30no to put Pakistan in the box-seat.England already have their work cut out to win the Test - their highest successful chase at Lords remains the 282-3 made against New Zealand in 2004, with the record by any team the mighty 344-1 scored by the West Indies in 1984.Pakistan made light work of mopping up Englands tail in the morning session, leg-spinner Yasir trapping Steven Finn lbw to improve his figures to 6-72. Watch a pick of the action from the third day of the first Test The hosts added just 19 runs to their overnight 253-7, Woakes ending unbeaten on 35 after Wahab Riaz cleaned out Stuart Broad (17) and Jake Ball was run out.Yasirs figures were the second-best return recorded by a Pakistan bowler against England at Lords, behind Mudassar Nazars 6-32 in 1982, and the fourth best by a leg-spinner on the ground.Nor has any bowler taken more wickets in their first 13 Tests that Yasir, whose tally of 82 now eclipses the record total previously held by Australias Charlie Turner. England got the early breakthrough they needed when Mohammad Hafeez edged Broad to second slip in the third over of the innings but at lunch Pakistans position was promising, Shan Masood and Azhar Ali improving tthe overall lead to 107.ddddddddddddThe fightback was led by Woakes, who found Masoods edge with the fifth ball of the new session before hitting Azhar in front of leg - the first of two wickets to fall for one run.The second was that of Misbah-ul-Haq who, having dominated Moeen Ali during a magnificent first-innings century, succumbed trying to take the spinner to task again. The skipper could scarcely believe what he had done after slog-sweeping Moeen to deep mid-wicket where Alex Hales took a fine running catch on the boundary to make it 60-4. Hales celebrates taking the catch to remove Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq His swift change of fortune made Misbah only the second player to follow up a ton at Lords with a duck although he is the 12th skipper to suffer that fate at any ground.Englands aspirations of further in-roads were thwarted, though, by obstinate stands of 69 and 39 between Shafiq (49) and Younus Khan (25) and Sarfraz respectively.Younus bunkered down until he was bowled off the inside edge attempting to cut Moeen and it took a Woakes beauty to bowl Shafiq, the seamer trimming the bails having gone wider on the crease to sneak one through the batsmans defences. Woakes celebrates removing Sarfraz Ahmed At 168-6 Englands hopes of restricting Pakistans lead to beneath 250 were high but Sarfraz found a stoic ally in Yasir, promoted up the order from 11.The pair dug deep to stretch the tourists advantage, enjoying a life each off the increasingly-frustrated Finn - Jonny Bairstow shelling a simple chance when Sarfraz edged behind on 36 after Broad couldnt quite grasp a leading edge offered by Yasir. But Woakes late double strike, removing Sarfraz and Wahab Riaz to catches behind the wicket, pulled Pakistan back to put the game in the balance.Watch highlights of todays play and The Verdict on the red button on Sky Sports 2 tonight at 8pm and 9pm respectively.
