So I had the idea to create a clan competition tracker for me and my friends in my guild to track our progress through the whole year of 2012. When I tried to make this competition here on the website, I was told that competitions can only be up to 3 months long.

Is there a specific technical reason for this length restriction? If not, I'd like to suggest the length of competitions be extended.

A lot of us were really looking forward to this year-long thing.

The reason for the maximum length was that many people were just creating year-long trackers for no reason (tests, etc), thus clogging up the tracker list. Trackers are meant to be used for defined clan competitions, not just general progress tracking or clan stats (which is what RuneHead is for). What you describe is really more of a progress tracker, not an official clan competition.

However, when I make the next round of updates to the trackers, I may consider increasing the max time frame to 6 months or a year, as the clan competition page is pretty filled up anyway as it is. Also remember you're always free to just create 4 trackers for the four seasons of the year.

I've now extended the competition timeframe to 1 year. I may change it back at some point if it doesn't work out, though that won't affect you as long as you create the tracker in the next couple weeks.
