I'm not sure if you've though of this/are implementing this, but could you use the adventurer's log to check if someone is f2p, not all f2p accounts give the "This player does not have an Adventurer's Log, as this is a members-only feature." message when trying to search for them, but I'm pretty sure that whenever that message is displayed, the account is f2p. I'm guessing that you check for a name change if a person is skipped, so hopefully this would save you time too.

Ah, good point - I recall the Adventure Log being used as a means for detecting F2P status, but I haven't used that to filter out F2P accounts from showing on the Name Change Contributions page. I'll go ahead and add that soon - thanks. :)

Uh-oh, I just had a thought. If the adventurer's log outputs "This player profile is not publicly available." assuming that the adventurer's log isn't more buggy than I thought it was, this means that there is an account with that display name on jagex's servers, so no name change has occured?

It seems quite a few accounts display this message when there has been no name change but they are not on the hiscores. I've checked a friend who changed his name yesterday, putting his old name into the adventurer's log, and it gives:

"This account either does not exist or has never logged in to RuneScape.

Please check the account name and try again."

I'm not aware of any cases since a-log teething troubles were sorted out where this happens to an account that does exist, so, unless you know better, I'm guessing that if there has been a name change, the adventurer's log will output:

"This account either does not exist or has never logged in to RuneScape.

Please check the account name and try again."

Any names which the f2p detecting thingy didn't detect as f2p, but were unchanged gave the "This player profile is not publicly available." message when I put them into the adventurer's log, so it's definitely never your coding that is at fault.

Anyway I think the f2p detecting thingy is really awesome! I love the way it's implemented to make me feel like I'm making progress.

Sorry to annoy you further with my ramblings.

Yeah, I was wondering about that too - I was running into a lot of scenarios where there were accounts which were removed from the highscores, but their Adventure Log said their account was set to private and "not publicly available", meaning the account still existed.

I know that if an account changes their display name, the Adventure Log for their old name will give an "account does not exist" message - which makes sense, as no one currently occupies that display name anymore. However, I wonder if someone sets their Adventure Log to private right before losing membership, if the privacy message will just remain in place regardless of them being F2P. So, since they technically opted out of the Adventure Log, the "not publicly available" message could display regardless of whether they were F2P or not - that would be something interesting to find out, and would be an explanation for what's been occurring.

Either way, the Name Change Contribution system only labels accounts as F2P when the account's Adventure Log explicitly states that the account is a "Non-member Account", and not under any other scenario - so any accounts RuneTrack marks as F2P should be accurate. Basically, RuneTrack may fail to detect some F2P accounts for automatic removal from the Name Change queue due to Jagex coding irregularities, but every account detected as F2P and removed is definitely F2P.

That's a plausible reason as to why they are showing as private. There were quite a few cases yesterday where this happened, I adventure logged all the accounts that weren't showing f2p, and compared and all the name changed accounts had "this account does not exist" messages, and all the ones where no name change had occured (presumeably they had going f2p, maybe some were banned idk) had "blah blah private" profiles.
