MILWAUKEE - O.J. Mayo was a young ball boy for the University of Cincinnati when Kenyon Martin starred for the Bearcats. On Friday night, they were teammates for the first time.Playing in his first game for the Milwaukee Bucks after having been out of the league since February, Martin jumped high for an alley-oop pass from Mayo late in the fourth quarter and threw down an emphatic slam dunk, capping the Bucks 98-84 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was always one of my favourite players. Him being on our team means a lot to me, Mayo said.Martin, who was signed to a 10-day contract earlier in the day, finished with six points and two rebounds in nearly eight minutes of play.It was fun to be back out there with the guys and being back in the routine of NBA basketball, Martin said. Im just trying to get back into the swing of things.Bucks coach Jason Kidd praised Martins effort. For us to get him in a defensive scheme, rebound, play offensively, knock down those elbow shots and also show that at the young age of 37 he can still play above the rim, its all good stuff, Kidd said.Brandon Knight scored 14 points, Mayo and John Henson each had 12, and the Bucks handed the Timberwolves their 14th straight loss. Khris Middleton and Giannis Antetokounmpo added 10 points each and Kendall Marshall had a season-high nine assists to help the Bucks snap a four-game home skid.Andrew Wiggins had 20 points and seven rebounds for Minnesota. He has scored 20 or more points in six consecutive games. Its a good thing for me, keeping my confidence up high. But Id trade (those) for a win any day, Wiggins said.Marshalls 3-pointer gave Milwaukee a 20-point lead early in the fourth quarter. The Timberwolves pulled within 10 later in the period but got no closer. The Bucks took control of the game with a strong-shooting second quarter. Back-to-back 3s by Mayo early in the quarter put Milwaukee up for good at 27-24. Knight and Middleton closed out the quarter with consecutive 3s, giving the Bucks their largest lead of the first half at 53-38.The Bucks shot 14 for 17 (82 per cent) in the second quarter. The Bucks won handily despite committing 23 turnovers.Weve got to take care of the ball better, Kidd said.TIP-INSTimberwolves: Mo Williams didnt play due to a sprained ankle he sustained in Wednesdays game against Phoenix. Coach Flip Saunders said Williams could return to the lineup on Saturday. ... Miroslav Raduljica, who played for the Bucks last season, saw his first action since signing a 10-day contract on Thursday. Hes got pretty quick feet for a guy his size, Saunders said. Big guys are hard to find.Bucks: Ersan Ilyasova missed his ninth consecutive game as he continues to recover from a concussion. Kidd said he expects Ilyasova to accompany the team to London for its Jan. 15 game against the Knicks. Hes getting close. He will go to London and we hope he will have the opportunity to play over there. ... Larry Sanders remained out due to personal reasons.LONDON CALLINGKidd expects the game in London to be a positive experience for the Bucks. I think its a great opportunity for our franchise to be in a global game. We have international players that will have a chance to see them play in London. But its not a vacation, its a business trip. This is a good test for us.UP NEXTMinnesota: Hosts San Antonio on Saturday.Milwaukee: At Chicago on Saturday Robert Quinn Jersey . -- Two nights after losing to the Eastern Conferences worst team, the Phoenix Coyotes handled the best. DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies have faced adversity with injuries all season. Wednesday, they dealt with a little bad luck and let a victory slip away. Daniel Descalsos two-out bloop double hit the line in left field and sparked a two-run eighth inning, and the St. Louis Cardinals rallied late to beat Colorado, 9-6. Drew Stubbs homered and Justin Morneau had two hits for the Rockies, who finished their homestand 1-5. The game featured the major league debuts of both starting pitchers. St. Louis Marco Gonzales was sharp early before faltering. Colorados Yohan Flande also started well before getting hit hard in his last inning. The Cardinals scored twice in the eighth off Adam Ottavino (0-3) on RBI doubles by Descalso and Matt Carpenter to take a win away from Flande. Ottavino was surprised when Descalsos double hit the line. "Honestly, I thought it was a foul ball until the moment that it wasnt," he said. "I wasnt even worried when it was in the air. I dont have any answers for today. I feel horrible that I gave it up. I thought I made good pitches and they found holes." St. Louis added two unearned runs off Nick Masset in the ninth on two of the clubs four sacrifice flies. Pat Neshek (2-0) pitched an inning of relief to earn the win. Trevor Rosenthal got four outs for his 23rd save in 26 chances. Rosenthal walked two batters in the ninth to bring the tying run to the plate. He struck out Troy Tulowitzki on a 100 mph fastball, the 11th pitch of the at-bat, and then Morneau flew out to centre to end it. "I was hoping to come through for the team, get on base, get a hit, get him in deeper water than he was already in," Tulowitzki said. "You could tell they were having meeting after meeting. I was calling time. It was a battle. That was an important out for them. I knew it was an important at-bat for our team. It hurts." Gonzales was unhittable the first time through the Rockies order, pitching near where he was an all-state player for Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins, Colorado, from 2007-10. At one point he threw 12 straightt strikes, and 30 of his first 37 pitches were strikes.dddddddddddd He had only one blemish, a one-out walk to DJ LeMahieu in the second. Things unraveled for him in the fourth. Stubbs hit the first pitch of the inning into the seats in left to tie it 1-1. After Tulowitzki fouled out, the next five batters reached base. Corey Dickerson had a two-run double and scored on LeMahieus single, and Josh Rutledge came home on Flandes groundout that made it 5-1. Matt Adams homered and drove in two runs and Matt Holliday had three hits for the Cardinals. Flande is the fourth starting pitcher this month to make his major league debut for the Rockies. Injuries to the staff forced the call-ups, but two of those pitchers -- Eddie Butler and Christian Bergman -- are now injured. Flande allowed just one run through the first four innings before the Cardinals rallied for three in the fifth. Mark Ellis scored on a sacrifice fly, and Adams followed Hollidays double with his third home run of the series to make it 5-4. Flande was touched for four runs and six hits, and he struck out four in five innings. "Flande was outstanding," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "I thought he was very good. Gonzales was outstanding the first time through the lineup. We got a few off him, but he hung in, gave his team a chance to win." Gonzales also pitched five innings. He allowed five runs and seven hits, and struck out three. "It was the best day of my life right there," Gonzales said. "It was a blast. A lot of family that I havent seen in a while, a lot of friends flying in from everywhere. Im very grateful for it. "Fortunately I was able to turn a lot of Fort Collins people into Cardinals fans today." NOTES: Dickerson went 13 for 25 during the six-game homestand. ... The Rockies placed Bergman (fractured left wrist) on the 60-day DL. ... Butler (right rotator cuff inflammation) will be shut down for six days before he begins throwing again. ...
