INDIANAPOLIS -- Dolphins coach Joe Philbin is promising to change the culture inside Miamis locker room and make it a better workplace than the one that forced Jonathan Martin to leave the team last season. Philbin said Thursday he wants players to treat one another with civility and he wont tolerate anything less. In taking questions for the first time since Ted Wells released his report into the bullying scandal that rocked the league, Philbin made it clear things would be cleaned up. "We are going to do things about it. We are going to make it better. We are going to look at every avenue. We are going to uncover every stone, and we are going to have a better workplace," Philbin said at the NFL scouting combine. "Im going to make sure that happens." The changes have already begun. On Wednesday night, the Dolphins fired offensive line coach Jim Turner and longtime head athletic trainer Kevin ONeill for their roles in the scandal. While the timing seemed odd, on the eve of a six-day event where Miami and the leagues 31 other teams can interview and test draft hopefuls, Philbin said the Dolphins needed time to contemplate the reports findings and possible punitive actions. The Wells investigation found that guard Richie Incognito and two teammates engaged in persistent harassment of Martin, another offensive lineman and an assistant trainer. Martin left the team at midseason, and Incognito was suspended for the final eight games. Martin has said that the persistently vulgar language made him feel trapped. Wells determined that Turner didnt try to stop the harassment and even took part in some of the taunting of offensive lineman Andrew McDonald. The report said ONeill expressed hostility toward the investigation and cut short an interview with those conducting it, even though Philbin said he instructed everyone to tell the truth. Philbin, who said he was unaware of the bullying when it happened, said he found the details of the language his players used and their actions to be "inappropriate and unacceptable" and immediately helped Martin find medical treatment. "Im going to be more vigilant, Im going to be more diligent, Im going to be more visible and Im going to have a better pulse," Philbin told the biggest crowd of reporters to gather around a combine for a coach in recent memory. New general manager Dennis Hickey insists the team is making a concerted effort to change course. Hickey told reporters that he and Philbin have met with each department inside the organization to reinforce their goals, expectations and standards to create a more welcoming environment. "We want our organization to be a culture of respect," Hickey said. "We take this seriously and we want to set the standard around the league." What happens next is still unclear. Three weeks ago, team owner Stephen Ross said he did not expect Martin or Incognito to be back with the Dolphins next season. Philbin declined to comment specifically on either player except to say Ross and Martin were expected to meet soon and that he took immediate action when he learned of the allegations against Incognito. Hickey did not provide any additional insight and spoke mostly in generalities about building the best 53-man roster he could. Martins agent, Kenneth Zuckerman, has said he plans to meet with the Dolphins in Indy. The bigger question, however, may be whether the Dolphins reputation in the wake of the report could scare off free agents. "I think free agents will be attracted to who we are because we have a great coaching staff, you can live in Miami, we have a great owner who is committed to the product and weve got an environment that when you get in the building and meet the people, you get some sense of what the organization is about," Hickey said. The report found no evidence that Philbin was aware of abusive conduct within the team. But Philbin emphatically took responsibility to clean things up. "I have faith in our locker room, faith in the players that we have. I think we have an outstanding coaching staff," Philbin said. "Im confident in the direction, Im confident were going to make the changes necessary to improve the workplace at the Miami Dolphins complex and improve our football team." Luis Enrique signed the deal with club president Josep Bartomeu two days after it was announced by the club. That was two days after coach Gerardo Martino stepped down when Barcelona finished its first season without a major trophy in six years. "We believe that this is the beginning of a new Barcelona, a Barcelona that will excite again," Luis Enrique said. "When I left Barca the club told me that it was a see you later and they have kept their word. I cant wait to hear the hymn of Barcelona in the Camp Nou." The 44-year-old Luis Enrique won two league titles as a Barcelona player from 1996-2004 and coached its B team from 2008-11. He also coached at Roma, and led Celta Vigo to a respectable ninth-place finish this season after installing an attractive passing attack on the Barcelona model. Luis Enriques hiring continues a recent tradition of in-house coaches recently represented in Pep Guardiola and Tito Vilanova. That string was broken when Martino was hastily brought in last year after Vilanova resigned to focus on his battle with throat cancer that he eventually lost last month. Luis Enrique is the clubs eighth former captain to coach the club, joining such greats as Laszlo Kubala, Cesar Rodriguez, Johan Cruyff and Guardiola. Although Luis Enrique was never in the same class as them, he will be only the second former captain to coach the clubs B side and first team. Guardiola is the other. Luis Enrique asked not to be compared with Guardiola, and said his best quality as a coach was being a leader, not as an expert in tactics, despite his insider knowledge of Barcelonas ball-control approach. "I dont rely too heavily on tactical knowhow, instead I focus on managing a group, managing egos," he said. "There is work that goes on during the week, work based oon knowing each player.dddddddddddd. I try to be everything a leader is." Luis Enriques immediate goal is to work with sports director Andoni Zubizarreta and rebuild a squad that has experienced a slow slide over the past two years. "He is a coach that knows our way of playing, our philosophy. We believe that we have put the squad that we are going to build for next season in good hands," said Zubizarreta, who also recalled that Enrique had "put a goal or two" past the former Barcelona goalkeeper when Enrique played for Real Madrid. Under Luis Enrique, Barcelona will be expected to bring in reinforcements to help Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Neymar. And he wont be measured -- at least not immediately -- against Guardiola, who won an unprecedented six titles in his first season and 14 of a possible 19 in four years. Luis Enrique acknowledged his other challenge is helping Messi rediscover the competitive spirit that the clubs all-time leading scorer appeared to lack during some matches after recovering from nagging muscle injuries last season. "I am thrilled to have the best player in the world on my team," Enrique said. "Its obvious that Messis output this season wasnt as incredible as in past years ... I hope that with me he can find his best version, but not only him, also Iniesta and Neymar and the rest." Luis Enrique can draw on links with three generations of players, having played alongside veteran Xavi Hernandez, coached former B team player Sergio Busquets, and taken rising talent Rafina Alcantara from Barcelona to Celta on loan and now back. Luis Enrique is one of the few players to have enjoyed successful stints at both Barcelona and Madrid. He occupies a special place among Barcelonas faithful as the one recent player to have left Madrid for Barcelona, in contrast to a group of former stars who left for the Spanish capital, including Luis Figo, Bernd Schuster and Michael Laudrup.
